D.C. Access To Justice Commissions "Raising The Bar" Campaign
Delaney McKinney joined the D.C. Access To Justice "Raising The Bar" Campaign to raise funds for legal service providers.
D.C. Superior Court Attorney Negotiator Program and Self Help Center
The majority of litigants in D.C.’s Family Court appear unrepresented in matters involving divorce, custody, visitation, and child support. In an effort to serve the growing need for legal representation, Delaney McKinney’s attorneys dedicate hundreds of hours every year to serve unrepresented parties in family law matters through the D.C. Superior Court’s Attorney Negotiator Program and Family Court Self Help Center.
Each month, Delaney McKinney attorneys donate at least one full day of pro bono service to the D.C. Superior Court’s Attorney Negotiator Program. The purposes of the Attorney Negotiator program are to (1) provide unrepresented parties with legal and procedural information and (2) resolve issues of unrepresented parties through attorney mediators. Through the efforts of Delaney McKinney’s volunteer attorney negotiators, the Court is able to process cases more efficiently and the parties are able to spend less time in Court.
In addition, Delaney McKinney’s attorneys volunteer at least once a month in the D.C. Family Court Self Help Center, a free walk-in service that helps unrepresented people obtain general legal information on family law matters, determine their legal options, fill out forms, and receive referrals to other helpful clinics and programs.
The firm’s attorneys also serve as mentors to non-family law practitioners volunteering in the Self Help Center and through the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program.
Children’s Law Center
Each year, the attorneys and staff at Delaney McKinney participate in the Children’s Law Center Holiday Hope Drive to make holiday wishes come true for children in the District of Columbia who are abused, neglected, or otherwise would not have a “Real Christmas.” As volunteer Santas, the firm’s members “adopt” children and provide clothing, shoes, toys, and grocery store gift cards to ensure a happy, healthy, and hopeful holiday season for some of the District’s neediest children and families. The firm also sponsors the Children’s Law Center’s Annual Benefit.
