Eleanor
Susie Nace is Of Counsel to Delaney McKinney, L.L.P.,
having chosen to leave her partnership at Lichtman, Trister, Singer
& Ross in 2004 to participate in the growth of this firm,
whose values and goals she shares.
Since
entering private practice in 1990, Ms. Nace has consistently been
ranked as one of the area's top divorce lawyers by Washingtonian
Magazine. She is considered to be one of the most successful
family mediators in the area, exceptional at negotiating settlements
on behalf of her individual clients, and noted for the quality
of her prenuptial agreements. In breakups involving children,
her paramount concern for the welfare of the children is well-known.
Although she rarely litigates herself, the range and depth of
the skills provided by the Firm enable her to take on clients
whose interests will be well-served even if she is unable to negotiate
a settlement. Ms. Nace practices in the District of Columbia and
Maryland and has extensive experience with clients who are employed-or
whose spouses are employed-overseas. She has a particular expertise
in the legal and personal issues affecting the formation and dissolution
of same-sex partnerships or marriages.
Throughout
her career, Ms. Nace has been very active in the D.C. Bar and
is now serving her third term on the Steering Committee of the
Family Law Section, having twice served as co-chair. Her pro
bono work, particularly as a mentor, has been recognized by
the Bar, and she continues to volunteer at the Bar's Advice and
Referral Center and the D.C. Superior Court, Family Court Self-Help
Center. She also serves as a settlement Facilitator for the D.C.
Superior Court Family Court ADR Project. Ms. Nace has lectured
often on mediation at D.C. Bar programs and law school classes,
and has served as arbitrator as well as mediator in family law
cases and in many other types of civil litigation. Her mediation
background is unique among family law practitioners.
After
graduating with Honors from George Washington University's National
Law Center in 1975, Ms. Nace clerked for the Honorable Julia Cooper
Mack on the D.C. Court of Appeals. She received her B.A. from
Manhattanville College. Her prior experience includes years as
a social worker, court administrator, designer of Alternative
Dispute Resolution programs, and prosecutor. She is a member of
the state and federal Bars in the District of Columbia and Maryland,
the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Association of Family
and Conciliation Courts, and the Montgomery County Bar Association;
her original Bar membership, in Massachusetts, is inactive.
